French artist and skateboarder Lucas Beaufort is best known for his colorful and stylistic artwork. In 2017 his documentary Devoted perfectly applies his passion and love for skateboarding.
With his most recent project, Lucas focuses on skate shops. He traveled throughout Japan and Europe to release HEART, a book celebrating 40 years of skate shops' history. For each stop we created limited edition Stance socks, embroidering each with the local skateshop’s name on our Icon socks. These socks were given out to all the community who came to each event, shop owners and staff as a limited edition collectors product. Stance also supported each stop of the tour with pizza for everyone to enjoy.
We sat down with Lucas to better understand how the Heart tour begin and where it’s headed in the near future….
Where did you journey with Heart begin?
It all started during covid. i was stuck at home, unable to travel like everyone else. I suddenly thought of all my friends who run a skateshop. I said to myself that there were worse things than my situation and that I had to do something for them. The idea of creating a book to celebrate skateshops around the world was an obvious one. The book HEART got released in spring 2022.
Based on the reaction from the European Heart tour, did this spark doing a US tour?
Absolutely, after touring Europe visiting legendary skateshops such as Nozbone in Paris, Civilist in Berlin, Slam City in London, Welcome in Madrid and Nine one one in Bruges, I felt how important it was to keep meeting up in the shops to celebrate our culture. There are so many great stories to tell, and so many great people behind them.

How did you choose the core skate shops as part of the tour?
When I was working on the book, I relied on the players in the industry (distributors, media, brands, skateboarders) to make my choice. The choice I made doesn't mean it's the best choice. I told myself I had to choose people who, above all, wanted to be part of the adventure. Then I wanted to tour the US from East to West, from New York to Los Angeles, via New Orleans, Denver, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Austin etc...
The tour featured several artist, how did you go about picking artists for each stop?
For each show I simply asked each owner to give me the names of all the people who have worked with the shop from the beginning to the present day. It's so important to pay tribute to the old-timers and continue to help young artists emerge.
Any memorial moments on the US Heart that stood out?
After two months of touring the US, the thing that struck me most was the desire to get together. We're going through a very complicated period right now, and I feel the need to be together more than ever. Let's be united!
Stance produced some limited edition Icon socks as part of our support to the tour. How were they received throughout the tour?
This tour is also a way of celebrating each shop's community and giving them some love too. a big thank you to Stance for playing along by creating ultra-limited products for each shop.
What is next for the Heart tour?
We'll be releasing the tour documentary in early October, with a European and L.A. premiere
then I'm going to launch a new chapter with HEART for 2025 with a different angle.
Stay tuned.
